The Story of Rose

Rose developed Dementia and then Dysphagia.

She could not eat or drink effectively any more and developed dehydration and malnutrition. She was placed on Palliative Care (Terminal Care).

The family pushed for a solution, and a breakthrough was achieved. She ate and drank and thrived again, laughing and singing and even walking.

The RoseCup was built in the honour of the Palmada family.

The RoseCup is a unique living system adaptable to the changing needs and preferences of those struggling with dysphagia and general difficulties with intake. Specialised attachments and valves assist in taking thin and thick liquids more effectively and with dignity. The target is to intercept the hazards of dehydration and malnutrition. The ideal is to use the IDDSI Framework and Flow Test to evaluate levels 1-3 of the thickened liquids you prepared. Your Speech Pathologist can assist with this if needed.

My husband has progressive supranuclear palsy, a condition that affects the brain’s ability to send signals to his muscles. As a result, he can no longer walk or speak, and he struggles with swallowing and maintaining lip grip strength.

That’s where the Rosecup has made a huge difference. He uses the straw attachment with the soft spout, designed for either moderately or extremely thickened fluids. It controls the flow and prevents spillage, something that's crucial for his safety and comfort. The Rosecup was actually recommended by his speech pathologist, and I’m absolutely thrilled with how well it works.

Since he began using the spout option, I’ve also noticed an improvement in his lip grip strength. On the rare occasions he drinks from a regular cup, there's noticeably less spillage now than before.

We received the Rosecup, and it has been wonderful, thank you so much! My son really likes it, and most importantly, he’s finally able to drink more fluid than ever before.

Before we had the Rosecup, we had to use a spoon to give him liquids, because using a traditional bottle often caused choking. That method was slow and exhausting for both of us. It used to take him 30 to 45 minutes to drink just 200ml.

Now, with the Rosecup and the blue spout, he can drink the same amount in just 10 minutes, when he’s thirsty, of course. That’s a significant improvement! It helps him stay hydrated throughout the day and has greatly reduced, if not completely eliminated, the risk of stoma.

His swallowing difficulties stem from an inability to bite properly, and he requires pureed or blended food. The Rosecup has truly made a positive impact on our daily lives.
